Frequently Asked Questions
What is a drain tile test?
A drain tile test is a diagnostic assessment that is utilized to determine if
you have a drain tile system, what type of system and the level of function
of the interior and or exterior drain tile. This is often done by technicians
opening approximately two to four small holes in the basement floor and
visually inspecting for obstructions (shale, roots, coal ash, clay mud,
standing water, iron ocher, etc...). A water hose pressure test and or Spud
test may also be done to analyze water flow through the system.
How long does a drain tile test take?
A typical drain tile test takes approximately 2-3 hours.
Can you do a drain tile test if I have a finished basement?
Yes, we can conduct a drain tile test if your basement walls/floors have interior finishings. Some may have to be removed or altered, but we strive to be as minimally invasive as possible.
How many holes do you make for the test and what size are they?
We usually install 2-4 test holes in the basement floor about the size of a shoe box. The holes are located 6”-12” from the wall.
Does the test create a lot of noise and/or dust?
The test holes are usually made with a jack hammer and can be noisy, but only for a few minutes intermittently. We keep dust to a minimum by utilizing a protective barrier over the test holes.
Should I be present for the test?
We recommend you are present for the test if possible. We found our customers appreciate the education and evaluation process as well as being able to see what the drain tiles look like.
Do you repair the test holes?
Yes, we install a new section piece of drain tile and re-cement the testholes. They are usually dry within 24 hours.
How long will it take to receive my report?
We typically have the report to you on site but guarantee it within (2) business days.
Will you need access to a water source?
Yes, we will need access to a water source (stationary tub, water heater, well pressure tank, hose bib, etc.)
What does a drain tile test cost?
Cost can vary depending on the size of basement, number of units(duplex, multi-family buildings, commercial property, etc.), travel distance or other factors. Please contact us for pricing.
